Description

Toque knit -1898 HAT- Designed by Kristine Byrnes. Knit a free toque pattern for women, men and children.

I found out about this free boss last year. I first knitted this pattern for my spouse. However, I quickly made it my own! When I went for a walk outside in the winter, my ears were always cold. But with her... never again! I knitted a second one this year, so I was able to give her hers. In conclusion, this toque knit is suitable for the whole family.

According to the designer, the construction of this toque was inspired by the one illustrated in a magazine published around 1910. First, the headband is knitted from side to side, using foam stitch. The method used to knit the headband creates a double layer to keep the ears warm and makes it easy to shape the earcups. The edges of the headband are folded together along a seam and knitted together to finish in a round shape. The headband has plenty of depth so it can be worn low on the forehead, and the earcups will wrap naturally around the ears.

Sample:

20 m and 24 rows / 4 inches in jersey stitch,

20 m and 36 rows / 4 inches in foam stitch.

Recommended needle in the pattern: 4.5 or 5 mm

Wool used: Flake

Note: For this free toque knitting pattern for women and men ( here ), I had to reduce the needles to 3.5 mm for the foam stitch sample. This free pattern has only one large width but it is very easy to adapt. Check as you knit the headband. It knits back and forth, so stick it to your head regularly and lengthen or shorten as needed.
