Description
Knitting Kit – Cirrus by Natasja Hornby
Here’s how Natasja describes her design:
The most striking feature of the Cirrus shawl is its giant mosaic (slipped-stitch) pattern, which draws the eye while being easy to knit. Depending on the setting, these shapes can be seen as flowers, delicate sea creatures, or windmills. But that’s not all: lovely textures, garter-stitch stripes, and a shape that’s a joy to wear.
And yes, it sounds like a lot, but the thoughtful details and meticulously balanced proportions keep it from feeling over the top in any way. Cirrus will turn heads wherever you go, but it’s also remarkably easy to wear and effortlessly elegant.
CONSTRUCTION:
Cirrus is a sideways triangle. You’ll start with just a few stitches, then work increases to shape the shawl. The top edge is shaped with German short rows. Once the body is finished, you’ll pick up stitches along the lower left edge of your shawl to work the border around both lower edges.
Personally, even though I’m not really a shawl person… I had so much fun knitting Cirrus, and I was sad when it was finished. I wanted more!!!
♥ Suggested base: Flocon fingering ⇔ choose your colourway. (100% untreated merino.)
Knitting Kit – Cirrus includes:
2 skeins of the main colour and 2 skeins of the contrast colour.
Finished measurements, washed after blocking:
Approx. 175 cm (69″) wingspan along the top edge and 65 cm (25.5″) deep.
For the gauge:
◊22 sts and 42 rows = 10 cm in garter stitch.
You’ll also need to make the pattern (not included):
◊ Needle size suggested in the pattern: 3.5 and 3 mm / US 4 – 2.5.
(Use the needle size you need to get gauge.)

*The Cirrus Shawl would also knit up beautifully in the Tibétaine fingering base, and to add even more texture, I’d hold a strand of Bamys or Impératice along the bobble motif.*
