Shh! Don’t tell anyone!
It’s me, the “Parfait Flocon” of merino! The other one’s brother! Tell me you’ve met him, right? Phew! … If you missed him, don’t worry, you have time! … After our chat, go to the blog to meet him—his name is Merlin, and he’ll be “enchanted” to introduce himself!
Me, I have 100% Merino running through my wool. (Yeah, I don’t have veins, for me it’s wool, but even without veins, my life expectancy is the same as yours—pretty good, right?). 100%, we like that, don’t we? Does that mean I’m perfect? 100%… I’ll investigate that, but… I don’t hate it, perfect…
Okay, enough jokes, let’s get back to our sheep!
Do you know merino? Do you know my origins? Spain! Si, Si Señorita, Señor! The whole Familia!… Española.
The Parfait Flocon Family!
Familia—that reminds me before I forget—in the Flocon family, there’s the baby of the bunch, his name is Fingering; there’s the middle one, DK; and me, the eldest, Worsted—Flocon Worsted!
I’m quite… as we’d say back home, a good catch. In the sense that I’m good to wear in winter, fall, spring, and summer. I’m useful all the time, all year round—perfect, really!
Will you marry me??? (I feel like I’ve heard that somewhere before…)
Now, where was I? Oh yes! The Familia! … So the baby is very useful for light knits like summer projects or shawls; I have to say, he’s very clingy. Two or three loops around your neck, nice and close, he loves it! He really, really loves it! And plus, he’s soft, soft as a “lamb.”
As for DK, he’s great for sweaters and beanies. And he’s soft, soft as…
And me, Worsted, I’m “perfect” for sweaters, beautiful cardigans, beanies, cowls, scarves—is that enough? As they say: is that perfect enough!
I have to say that in the Flocon family, we really live up to our name…
…The Flocon way of seeing things.
Really! Look out the window, do you see them falling? They drift down slowly to the ground like feathers, but… let’s say like feather-flakes or rather… like snowflakes. Well… I know, you know what I mean. You’re there, settled in with your coffee held tight in your hands, nice and warm by the window, near the stove (or the radiator, depending). And you’re admiring the show of the falling snow…
Don’t tell me it’s not beautiful, those lovely flakes… right? Well, what can I say… That’s just how we “Parfait Flocon” are! Light as feathers, airy, and plus… insulating! And we breathe, like, really breathable!
What? Did I hear that right? Are some of you having trouble following me?
Okay… step away from the window! Your coffee must be finished anyway; put on your coat, your boots, your beanie, your mittens or your gloves, and let’s go outside.
Parfait Flocon says: “Come on” gang… let’s go!
Don’t worry, all bundled up with the Flocon family, for example, you’ll be just as cozy as by the window near the stove. We’ll be back in a bit, just to knit a few stitches… come on, let’s go out… there! thank you!
You’ll see, you won’t regret it! … Stop! Wait two minutes. Earlier I asked you to look outside to see the snowflakes falling to the ground… now I’m going to ask you to close your eyes and take a deep breath. And another one—see what I meant by breathing? Breathable? Do you feel how good that makes you feel? It’s crazy, right? While we’re at it, do you want to go for a walk? A short or a long walk, whatever you like, we’re comfortable… we’re not cold.
Yes, yes, it’s 2021, I know; but we have plenty of time, it’s not 8 PM yet! And… don’t worry when you read this again in a few years, you’ll smile. And remember the good times. Like when we first met, for example, or how we took time—time for ourselves, time for our family, time to read, time to call our friends, our kids, for Facetimes.
In good company, do you see how fast time flies in the end? We’ve already been walking together for 30 minutes, feels good, doesn’t it? Breathing, nice and warm, bundled up in “Flocons”!
And let’s finish on a high note!
I don’t want to rush you, but we should think about heading back; we have time, but… we should save some to go knit a few stitches or why not a few rows… because I feel like it!
